Resources and Gifts for Parents

Up until this point, this list has mainly consisted of toys and activities for your child, which is great! But, we also want you to know that we see you, and we are here for you too! So, we’ve created a list of parent gifts and resources that may be helpful to you. We’ve compiled a few of our absolute favorite books that dive a bit more into development, brain-based parenting, and the sensory systems. Additionally, we have some tools that may be helpful for your day to day. Keeping a routine and structure can sometimes be a struggle when life is busy and constantly changing! Using a whiteboard calendar to keep yourself organized each week with activities, meal plans or school demands is one way that you can help to keep yourself on task. You can also use a simple calendar with pictures to provide your child with predictability of the day. In our office, we have an amazing Brain Blossom Calendar, that is magnetic and can hang directly on your fridge. There are many icons with pictures that you can put on each day and review with your child so he or she knows what to expect throughout the week as well. We sell these calendars in our office, so stop by one day if this is something you are interested in!

Additionally, we understand that sensory overload can happen to anyone, including parents! We added Loop Earbuds to our list this year, because sometimes we all need a little quiet. These earbuds are designed to let noise in but filters the noise, so it is less stimulating.

The holiday season can be filled with a lot of demands and stress, but it can also be a time of joy, family and building memories! Here are a few tips to help you have the best holiday season:

  • Remember, it’s ok to feel your feelings!
  • Prioritize time for yourself.
  • Prioritize sleep.
  • Practice diaphragmatic breathing.
  • Remember that it is ok to say “NO” to things and social commitments.
  • Give yourself time and space to regulate when it’s needed.
  • Don’t forget to have fun while you experience the holidays with your family.

We sincerely hope that this holiday gift list has been helpful for you and your family! And we hope you all have a wonderful holiday season!
