What would you do if using your hands and wrists meant dealing with pain each and every time you did it?
It almost seems unimaginable. Think about it though. We use our hands and wrists for hundreds and thousands of tasks daily. From typing to opening a can or jar, from doing dishes and even pleasurable activities to petting our dogs. And how would you drive if you couldn’t function without experiencing this pain at each and every turn?
Causes of Pain
The simple, repetitive tasks we perform every day can be the very same ones causing our hands and wrists pain over time. Like many things, they can suffer from overuse. The good news is that chiropractic can help! Visit us and we’ll help get to the root cause of your pain by discussing your work and home routines, your pain level, health history and the like.
Keep Moving
In the meantime, it’s important to keep using your hands and wrists, even if you’re experiencing stiffness, pain or swelling. Mobility exercises can help, rather than perpetuate the hurt. Try these exercises…
- Hand/finger tendon glide. Extend your fingers straight out. Make a hook fist, then go back to straightening your hand.
- Thumb flexion/extension. Start with your thumb pointing out. Then move your thumb across your palm and back to where you started.
- Wrist extension/flexion. Position your forearms on a table, hanging your hand over the edge, palm down. Move your hand up until you feel a gentle stretch. Return to the position in which you started.
Hold each position for between 5-10 seconds, and see if you can work up to 10 repetitions, three times a day.
We want to make sure your health, including your finger, wrist and hand health, is the best it can be. Don’t dismiss a bit of pain now for the possibility of more pain and a larger issue in your future. We can help to provide you with the relief you need and deserve. The solution may be simple.
